What is it about music that transports its listeners to another world? How does it tug at emotions in a way nothing else ever could? Why is it so pervasive, taking root in every human culture, spanning all of history?
Reductionist philosophers can rant all they want about music being nothing but sound waves with set patterns that somehow trigger certain chemical processes in the brain. Regardless of whether science will one day reveal how this happens exactly, be it at a psychological, biochemical or physical level, it should not stop us from relishing it.
